Two things that are sort of missing from the list above (they'd be lumped under the new in-camera RAW editing feature) are correction of distortion and chromatic aberration not only did the camera not have in-camera RAW editing before, but it didn't have either of these corrections at all! The only item it had to correct optical flaws in the lens was peripheral illumination correction. I'm pretty sure the range of new and improved features in this firmware update far exceeds anything they've done before in a firmware update for any EOS body. It's too bad that it won't continue after the 7DII (or whatever it is called.) comes along. It shows the power of the processing available in modern cameras that they can be upgraded this easily. It is gratifying to see Canon continuing to support the 7D with new features. I'll have to check out the video when I get home tonight! So much quicker than needing to slog through the clock setting when you change time zones. But being able to set a "do not pass" setting will be something I'll need to look into. I don't currently use Auto ISO, as I wasn't really happy with the camera being able to go all the way to 6,400 whenever it felt like. The in-camera rating because I can then quickly identify shots I thought were exceptional when I reviewed them in camera (and culled out the bad ones), when they get to the Mac. Flying or not! Those little warblers move very fast even when not flying! The other two that really interest me are the in-camera image rating and the max Auto ISO setting. Yes, the burst is a big deal for bird photography. Are they significant enhancements?Īnd the other aspect is, of course, does this tell us anything about the future of the 7D and/or a replacement? I'm wondering what other forum members, especially those who have a 7D, think of these improvements.
